Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

Ten To Go

Forget doomsday. This team did what it needed to do today. The key was the hitting. Did I say that Cliff Floyd would contribute? And how about Mr. Carlos Delgado?

Yes, the bullpen was shaky and Billy Wagner gave up a run in the ninth. But a win is a win. Let’s take it one game at a time. Your thoughts and comments please.

  1. I totally agree. Not only did Delgado turn it on, but almost eveyone on the team (except maybe Green) contributed in some way. Look for Beltran and Delgado to go on a hitting rampage. And yes, Wagner was shaky, but he didn’t walk anyone and he was GUNNING IT! Heilman looked good too. But a big win for the Mets just to send a statement to all the doubters after the thing with Pedro and El Duque. Maine looked good also.

Concerning the work thing, you could always tell you boss that your “gunna be sick.” HAHA. Good luck with your situation. LET’S GO METS!!!!

  2. Great first up win.

Great to see that the team looked determined, and that they seemed to really respond to the situation of losing El Duque and having John Maine named as a starter by playing as a team.

Everyone seemed to know what needed to be done.

Agreed that Wagner was a heart attack, but again to his credit he got the job done.

Let’s look forward to getting the second win at home and hopefully wrapping it all up on the west coast in three.

Great work with the podcast Rob, congrats on making the Post Season!!

  3. Espn.com is listing the “goat” as Grady Little for putting in Penny in relief. Like I said, Grady is our secret weapon. He’s like having a second manager in addition to Willie. Let’s Go Mets and Let’s Go Grady!

  4. Good old Grady. He definitely got outmanaged by Willie today.

  5. Yee ha! Here we go, off to the races. I appreciated Willie getting as many players in the mix as possible, gotta shake out those post-season jitters.

Big props to Maine for keeping it together amidst all the insanity of the past couple days.

Baseball is an amazing game. Just when you’ve think you’ve seen it all, the bizarre moment in the second inning gives us the spectacle of two plays at the plate on a single hit. Awesome defensive game for the Mets all around.

Mota just threw one too many change-ups to Nomar - I noticed he shook off Lo Duca on the fastball before giving up that devastating hit down the line. Ironic that Mota gets the W after he was arguably the shakiest pitcher out there tonight. I thought it odd that Willie let him hit for himself with Bert in the pen ready to pitch the 7th.

So bring on Kuo - let’s see how he handles the rockin crowd of postseason Shea. I look forward to demolishing the “can’t hit lefties” myth tomorow night.

    Lets go Mets!!

  6. Missed the game, as I was locked in a prison — no wi-fi available. I heard Randolph sent Mota to bat with two on in the later innings. That doesn’t seem like a good idea, but maybe I’m taking it out of context. Hope he’s not catching some bad managerial virus from Little.

  7. Great game - Delgado and Wright saved the bullpen from its problems. Where’s Beltran’s credit for the 3 walks???

Now imagine if Reyes and the other guys start hitting (Green, Valentine, etc).

  8. Willie really wanted Mota in the game in the next inning. Maybe he was trying not to throw too many pitchers.

This game was a template for how the Mets can win a lot of games in the post season.

Got to give Green credit for his defense in getting the ball in to the cutoff man for that wild DP at the plate.

  9. I caught the first hour on my computer at work, and then the rest at a bar right after work. I forgot how exciting playoff baseball is. Great win tonight. Sort of the formula for how we know the Mets have to win it. Big hits from our lineup, get the game to the relievers, hold your breath when they give it to Wagner. But definitely, this game set the tone for us, and I think we’re all moving forward with a lot of confidence.

  10. I just watched the condensed game on MLB.com (courtesy of my $9.95 playoff subscription). I didn’t see the play live yesterday but seeing it again makes me wonder.

How in the world does Jeff Kent get thrown out at the plate on a ball hit to the wall in right field? He was on second base. Even if he just went half way he should have scored easily.

  11. He was tagging, thinking Green would catch it.

  12. Give Green and Valentin credit for getting the ball in quickly and on target. Also another reason why speed can make the difference in a game.
