Lucky Number Six
A good win today. The template for the kinds of victories we hope to see against good teams with good pitching.
El Duque pitched very well, outdueling Greg Maddux. The bullpen held the fort down with Heilman and Wagner doing their jobs.
I think that the Mets can’t be beat on days when they’ve got their hitting shoes on. On other days it’s great to be able to have good pitching.
Meanwhile Pedro Martinez threw a simulated game today at Shea Stadium. Things are looking up my friends. Not that they they’ve been looking down. It’s always good for things to get better as you head into the playoffs.
The magic number is at six. I’ll be scoreboard watching tonight to see if the Marlins can help take it down to five for us.

The Phillies lost to the Marlins tonight so the magic number is down to five. The Mets could easily wrap up the NL East next week in Florida or Pittsburgh.

One of the best parts of the game was aaron heilman’s set up inning. Really solid.

The magic number is down to 4… so it will probably happen on the road in Pittsburgh (although it could happen as soon as Wednesday in Florida)… Too bad it won’t happen at home, but I’m looking forward to much bigger things happening at Shea than just clinching the division.
