The way the Mets went to town on Penny (who was lights out in his 2 innings at the All-Star game I seem to recall), it bodes well. Neither the Padres or the Phillies have a pitcher with bonafide ace numbers, and beyond Carpenter the Cardinals are very weak. I agree Rob, for me Reyes is the most exciting player in the game. It would be interesting to see a statistic as to his number of runs scored divided by number of times on base (i.e. a run 'conversion rate'?: being from the UK I don't know if that stat exists or not). Their SS definitely had vapor lock when that ball was hit his way. He waited back on it then double pumped his throw. Out of the Phillies, Marlins, Padres and Dodgers I think Philly have the most intimidating line up (ok Utley and Howard) but LA have by far the best pitching with Lowe/Penny/Maddux in their playoff rotation (is that better than OUR rotation?). My perfect scenario would be for the Padres to clinch the NL West and the Marlins to take the Wild Card, as despite this Sanchez guy, their postseason rotation doesn't go far behind Willis and Johnson if he keeps his form.
