Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

No No

Who the heck is Anibel Sanchez and how in the world did he toss a no hitter? Well it was the D’backs they were playing. The Marlins are making things interesting in this wild card race. There’s a team with more youth than experience that could spoil some plans in a big way.

No matter, I think the Mets could handle the Fish no problem in the playoffs. The Phillies and Padres better watch out!

  1. I checked out the highlights and he reminded me of Alay Soler quite a bit, Soler threw a 2 hitter against the diamondbacks not so long ago…

Out of the Phillies, Marlins, Padres and Dodgers I think Philly have the most intimidating line up (ok Utley and Howard) but LA have by far the best pitching with Lowe/Penny/Maddux in their playoff rotation (is that better than OUR rotation?). My perfect scenario would be for the Padres to clinch the NL West and the Marlins to take the Wild Card, as despite this Sanchez guy, their postseason rotation doesn’t go far behind Willis and Johnson if he keeps his form. Their bullpen isn’t a patch on the Mets’.

  2. I keep looking at the last play of the game and it almost looks like the runner beat the throw to first base. Their SS definitely had vapor lock when that ball was hit his way. He waited back on it then double pumped his throw.

  3. A couple weeks ago I would have thought that the Marlins were our biggest fear in the first round but since then we seem to have overcome our fear of lefties on the mound. I hope for two out of three against the Dodgers this week to put any fears of them to rest. Phillies, eh, besides Howard we seem to have them under control. Padres, Reds and Cards are all cake. Honestly, as Smoltz said yesterday, “these guys are going to the World Series.”

  4. I’d have to disagree with you. I think that the starting staff for the Marlins has more depth than the Mets does. Sure, it’s a bunch of kids, but their producing.

  5. Jose Reyes with an in-the-parker!

    He’s so friggin incredible…

  6. Just when we thought we’d seen it all from Jose he gives us an inside the park HR, how very nice. I think if there was a 5th base Reyes still would have scored standing up on that play.

  7. It would have been TREMENDOUS if Reyes kept running and slid head first into FIRST BASE… I’ve always said that a Jose Reyes triple is my favorite thing in all of sports, but taking it all the way around is just awesome… The news wires are saying that was his first career inside-the-park HR, which surprised me… But I think I’m having “Rob Safuto-Cliff Floyd” type feelings for Reyes

Oh, by the way, Mets are 35 games over .500… this is just a great time to be a Mets fan

  8. Wait, there’s more to my Jose Reyes love-fest:

Remember a few years ago, when the Devil Rays wanted Reyes in exchange for negotiating rights to Lou Pinella… LOU FREAKING PINELLA… probably the last good decision to come out of the Seve Phillips - Jim Duquette era… I occaisionally recall that memory when I need a good laugh

  9. The Mets pitching staff has been looking pretty good lately. All of a sudden we have all these lefties getting people out. So I’m not concerned about the Marlins in that respect.

What a smorgasborg on the hitting side as well. Green will be hot and cold but he takes a bit of pressure of the guys above him in the lineup so when one or two go cold you still have a couple of guys who can get it done.

Reyes has really picked it up in ‘06. He’s probably the most exciting player in baseball right now.

  10. Ha ha the way the staff has pitched in recent times, Victor Zambrano could come back and throw left handed and he’d notch some zeroes! The way the Mets went to town on Penny (who was lights out in his 2 innings at the All-Star game I seem to recall), it bodes well. Neither the Padres or the Phillies have a pitcher with bonafide ace numbers, and beyond Carpenter the Cardinals are very weak.

I agree Rob, for me Reyes is the most exciting player in the game. When he got on base in the first inning last night, you could just tell he was going to end up scoring a run. It would be interesting to see a statistic as to his number of runs scored divided by number of times on base (i.e. a run ‘conversion rate’?: being from the UK I don’t know if that stat exists or not). I reckon he’d lead the league in that stat. Lets go Mets!
