Welcome to Amazin’ Moments, the un-official New York Mets Baseball Podcast. This is where fans of the New York Mets pro baseball team get their fix.
I’ve been a lifelong Mets fan. I grew up just a few miles from Shea Stadium and have experienced all the ups and downs of the last 30 years of Mets baseball.
Now you can get involved via this podcast. I’ll be recording posts that you can listen to in order to get my perspective on the New York Mets baseball team. You can talk back now by commenting on the podcasts and writing your own blog posts about the Mets on our social network at www.iheartmets.com.
Lets Go Mets!
I really like what Hernandez has brought since he came to the Mets, but it’s gotta be Maine in that spot… The risk-reward ratio is just better… Hernandez could throw a gem, but he could also get rocked or walk the park… Maine has not lost since early July… And I like the idea of having Hernandez in the pen, where his playoff experience and funky delivery could be used in a big spot… If Maine is going to be in the rotation for years to come, let’s give him some real playoff experience right away

So you’d kep Hernandez in the pen and make Trachsel 4th starter? I actually think Darren Oliver has a big role to play in the postseason out of the pen. It makes sense out of Trachsel v Hernandez to keep the latter in the pen: there’ll be very few situations in a postseason game when Willie’s going to think “Send for Trachsel!”

Trachsel deserves the start. Half the reason he has a 5.0 ERA is that Willie doesn’t pull him when he has troubles to save the pen. That won’t happen in the playoffs, instead Maine and El Duque will come in early, or the relievers late.

Hey – no Pelfrey on the 40 man roster????
Comment by Greg_in_CT | September 5, 2006
Yeah, I think Trachsel has earned a playoff start… not just for his 14-6 record this year, but for his performance in a Met uniform since 2001… But looking forward to an actual playoff series, I think Trachsel gets the nod in a Game 3 if the other team is looking to bring back their #1 guy on short rest for a Game 4 – I’d rather have Maine in that matchup.. So technically, Maine is my #3 even though I’d throw him in Game 4 (I hope this is making sense)
Anyway, how cool is it to be talking about playoff matchups in early September… I could really get used to this for the next five or ten years

Looks like Pelfrey is there after taking a look at this one. Meanwhile it looks like Cliff Floyd will be sitting down again for a little while.

I read in the New York Post today that Mike Pelfrey is not with the team yet because he’s been having some back trouble. They don’t know when (or if) he will play in September.

It’s about time Shawn Green broke out. We’re one win away from a magic number in the single digits. And how about Dave Williams?
Comment by Rob Safuto | September 6, 2006
Williams rocks. We have so many contributors that it’s gonna be tough to narrow down our 25 man roster.
I hope the rooks get a chance to start/play, especially the AA guys.

Wow, did we just sweep the Braves in a double header in which we held them to ONE RUN?? With our two “cross your fingers and hope for the best” starters on the mound? There have been so many highlights this season I hate for wonderful occurences like this to just slip by unnoticed. Meaningless games, perhaps, but suh-WEET nevertheless. Shawn Green with a solid day, 2 dingers for him and one each for Delgado and Reyes, Beltran looking sharp in his return, Chavez awesomely clutch as always, even Floyd swinging with some authority there.
With Williams and Perez looking so sharp I think spring training is gonna be a blast next year. But first a sweet October to look forward to. Go Mets!

I’m glad my faith in Perez was rewarded today! Shut out baby
He needed this. Should help to boost his confidence.

Oliver Perez worked his way back into the good graces of many folks yesterday. And Dave Williams has done very well in his starts.
Omar may have stolen some pretty good talent away from the Reds and the Pirates. Looking back on some of the deals from this season it seems like the Mets really gotten the upper hand on just about all of them.

NO TRASCHEL!!!!! The guy only wins because of his massive run support and that always won’t come out when he pitches… hence the 9-1 drubbing by the Dodgers…. Hernandez has the experience and can toss a gem here and there where as Traschel has yet to toss anything near a gem all year… Maine should be the 4th starter and Traschel should be in the Pen… and I agree that Oliver should be the first long reliever out of the pen come playoffs… and unless Traschel finds himself in the next 3 weeks he should not be used as much unless we’re getting shelled and we need to save the Pen in the playoffs
