Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

New York Mets Podcast #32

Bad news tonight with Pedro Martinez leaving injured after a horrible first inning. We hope he comes back healthy while the rest of the squad continues to fight the good fight. A special thanks to those who voted for the show in the Podcast Awards. More talk on the issues the Mets are facing in the outfield and the pitching rotation prior to the playoffs. Also, a rumor that Shawn Green might waive his no trade clause in order to come to the Mets.

  1. Hey Rob,
Thanks for the cast… I was hoping for a little optimism after the 13-0 loss to Philly, and you came through… I appreciate it.

But dude, why are you so in love with Cliff Floyd? We all remember his first half last year, but he has only sparingly shown that form this season… We built the best record in the league with little offensive production out of Uncle Cliffie… His leadership aside, he has not done much… This Shawn Green deal could be good (especially if the D’Backs will eat some salary)… Re-unite him with Carlos Delgado, and maybe they both start hitting like they used to in Toronto.

I like Cliff Floyd, but to say that he is one of the top-2 impact players for the stretch run is a little out there.

Just my 2 cents… Keep up the good work Rob.

    –Joe.

  2. Great Podcast Rob… I found a site that will keep us all up to date on our playoff hopes..

Anyways back to the podcast.. I say we shut pedro down until early september… get him 2 or 3 starts to get him some warm-ups… this way we can audition Bannister, Pelfrey, or any other starter not names Lima for the post season… and I agree with Joe there is some sort of love affair going on between Rob and Cliff Floyd

  3. Don’t let my wife know about me feelings for Cliff ;)

What can I say. I’ve got the inkling that the guy can still contribute big time if he’s healthy. Definitely a big if. Yes, his numbers have lagged all year. And yes I’d take Shawn Green if we can get him without giving up much.

But I look at Arizona and see that they (believe it or not) are in the running for the wild card so they might not want to let Shawn go.

If the Green deal doesn’t materialize I would be happy with Floyd and Chavez bookending Carlos Beltran in the outfield.

  4. Rob, I’m watching (on the internet) the game on August 15 where so far, they are getting their booty kicked by 9 runs. I was wondering why you think that is? Thanks for doin the podcast. I’m obsessed

  5. even with jose’s three homers it was another schlacking by the phils. they are a team to watch in the next few years if they can get someone at third and another pitcher. anyway…milledge blew it (defensively) last night and tonight, why can’t endy start until green or whoever shows up?

  6. What a horrible 2 days - Pedro hurt, Floyd hurt, Mets getting spanked.

What’s with Lastings in the outfield? Guy acts afraid of the ball - he plays everything on a hop. WTF?

I didn’t want Green at first, but forget his $11.5M - let’s get him in here!

Keep up the good work Rob.

  7. rob- i went to the game last night, felt great after a first pitch hr by reyes…but the good feeling didnt last long. the phillies fans were raggin us pretty good when they jumped all over el duque, until we reminded them that they still have a losing record and are 14 games back. aside from reyes, there was little to feel good about. milledge looked lost, el duque was throwing batting practice and the team just looked flat. it was nice to be able to sit through that, but still leave the stadium with my head held high thanks to a double digit lead, but being outscored 24-2 so far in this series tastes pretty bad right now. heres to pedros and floyds health and delgado and wrights slumps…lets go mets!

  8. Ugh - to elaborate on Rob’s comment in an earlier podcast, the entire Mets team owes me dessert. And dinner for that matter. I hate these blowout losses. I feel bad that Jose has to feel guilty for celebrating an awesome day at the plate - under normal circumstances we would have seen him doing the funky salsa all night last night. Aside from Pedro’s woes I feel a bit concerned that Hernandez couldn’t pull himself together last night, getting rocked in each of the first four innings.

I haven’t jumped on Willie in awhile but I feel his management of the bullpen is rather schizophrenic these days. Hard to know who he will go to next in what situation - I know he wants everyone to be ready but the men do need to have some expectation of what their roles are.

    Let’s go Mets.

  9. Oh yeah and the rumors on Green’s use of certain banned substances do not bode well for that deal.

  10. I too was hoping for the Mets to bounce back after the first game. Will the real Orlando Hernandez please stand up?

Seems like the team is in a general slump, except for Jose Reyes. Better that it’s happening now than in the first playoff series. Of course, we need to get their first. And I’d like to get their with home field advantage. The Mets still do have an 8 game lead over St. Louis and L.A. for that honor.

I have faith that Tom and John can help to bail us out for the next two games to salvage a split in the series.

  11. From SI.com

“Shawn Green is healthy, yet for the second straight game the right fielder was out of the Diamondbacks starting lineup, fueling speculation he might be on his last leg in Arizona. — Arizona Republic”

    Hmmm…
