Welcome to Amazin’ Moments, the un-official New York Mets Baseball Podcast. This is where fans of the New York Mets pro baseball team get their fix.

Well, there’s little doubt that we are a weaker team today than we were yesterday – Nady and Sanchez replaced by Hernandez and Milledge. I think Minaya did as well as could be expected under the circumstances but I sure will miss Nady in the lineup – he has been pretty solid since about a week before the all-star break. I can only imagine how he must feel, finally getting a starting spot on the Mets, then helping us take the division by storm, only to find himself in the basement of what is arguably the worst division in the majors.
That said, I think we can weather this loss if (and these are two big ifs) 1) Heilman can find some inner strength and 2) Milledge can grow up quickly.
Maybe Nady’s feelings can be assuaged when he gets a good share of the world series money.

I agree with Dan. I think it’s gonna be pretty crappy when the Mets are in the playoffs and Nady’s playing golf…

Nady has caught a couple of bad breaks this season for sure. The first (appendicitis) he was able to overcome, but the second one (Duaner’s car accident) sealed his fate.
Xavier has got to be bummed out but Omar did what he had to do. If Nady plays well in Pittsburgh maybe a contender will pick him up in the Pirates next fire sale.

I hope the Mets will try to re-aquire him in the offseason.. he will serve well as our RF once again because the Mets should not resign floyd which would move Milledge to LF… He’s a solid consistent player and he will be missed with all the injuries Floyd has been getting into this season.
But one positive thing has come out of this… If sanchez doesn’t need surgery and he comes back 100% we will have added depth and vetern leadership to our pen… But that’s a big if

It’s official. Duaner Sanchez is out for the season. He had shoulder surgery earlier to day as reported by FoxSports.com

With Sanchez out, I feel totally trampled. I just finished watching the game. And there Billy Wagner went again. I swear this guy is just one big heart attack. Every time I seem to sit down and watch the whole game he blows it. I could feel it this time. Another Wagner catastrophe. At least he has been playing well lately. Overall, the Mets did alright. David Wright appears to be in a slump, and the thoughts of MVP are now trailing over to Beltran, who hit a home run for the third time in a row.
I also sincerely hope that the Mets try to get Xavier Nady back in the offseason. He was a pretty good addition to the team this year.
Ahh, LETS GO METS.

A bad loss, no doubt. Wagner has been doing well lately but there’s still no excuse for him to lose a game to the Marlins like this.

I think there were a lot of positives in last night’s game-
Proof that we can field a winning squad with Sanchez and Nady gone.
We showed the fortitude to keep fighting back.
Solid performances at the plate by LoDuca, Beltran, Delgado and Reyes. Even Milledge got on base a couple times.
Flawless performances by Bradford and Heilman.
Not a horrble memory for Pelfrey to take back to the minors.
So, a mistake from Wagner. He has been spot on lately (and for most of the season has been among the most consistent closers in baseball) and these things happen once in awhile. If we are ever going to blow a lead in the ninth last night was not a bad time to do it – we can weather this loss and bounce right back today with no harm done.

“The Mets’ defense gave up a run in the first when right fielder Lastings Milledge .. lost a routine two-out fly in the setting sun and let it drop for a single.”
I hate this kid….
Comment by Greg in CT | August 2, 2006
People talk about Nady’s defense which could be poor at times, but I think he did a good job out there overall. Milledge, on the other hand is just plain scary. He’ll save you a run with his arm at times, but then he’ll cost you three by misplaying balls hit to the outfield.
One other positive note from last nights game. After Pelfrey gave up three runs to tie the game, Tom Glavine took him into the tunnel leading to the clubhouse to show him something. Pelfrey has shown flashes of brilliance and this kind of mentoring could help him get to where he needs to be to make a strong impact on the rotation very soon.

Y’know, I was almost glad to see Milledge blow his first opportunity in right field. It’s like, Welcome to the majors buddy, time to step up and get serious, not gonna be a cakewalk any longer. Felt the same way about Amezaga making the strong running catch on his bloop to CF – that would have likely been a hit down in Norfolk but now you are in the show.
Hype only goes so far. Last night’s game presented him with two quick reminders about what he’s gonna need to work on if he wants to be a contributor (and earn his spot). Let’s see if he learns the lesson.

Voted for you on the awards. Good luck.
Another scary Billy moment tonight but then he turned on the gas to strike them out.
All these one run wins remind me of what the Nats did in the first half of last year. Lets hope we don’t suffer the same fate…
Comment by Kevin | August 2, 2006
Thanks. Mr. Wagner is also Mr. Heart attack ack ack ack ack to quote Billy Joel. I’m glad he closed it out though.
The bullpen performed like they should tonight and did well last night despite Wagner’s meltdown. There may just be life after Duaner Sanchez after all.

Check this article out… I found it interesting and it proves pretty much what I’ve been thinking all year.. Traschel is only winning because he has high run support
http://sportszilla.blogspot.com/2006/08/in-trax-ion.html
Comment by Ron | August 3, 2006
Oh absolutely. He’s got a 5.12 ERA. So in this case the wins don’t tell the whole story. I think that in general, pitchers don’t get this kind of support over long periods of time so career wins are still a good measure of success as a pitcher.
And once again last night Trachsel ran out of gas in the sixth inning only to be rescued by the bullpen. Looking at his last 10 games I see that Trachsel hasn’t made it to the 7th inning in any of those starts.
Comment by Rob Safuto | August 3, 2006
So looking at things come playoff time Maine better be as good as he’s been lately and Hernandez has to loose his every 3rd game hiccups that have been happening… Traschel should be comming out of the Pen
