Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

A Lastings Impression

Losing the first two games at Fenway won’t be the end of the world or the Mets season by any stretch of the imagination. After all, our team still has a 12 game lead in the division. But the weak pitching and shoddy defense expose the weaknesses that can really hurt the team in the playoffs.

I believe that Pedro Martinez and Alay Soler will bounce back from their sub par outings and pitch better during the regular season. But these first two games have been a test in dealing with pressure that the Mets have not passed.

The Mets bats have been weak over the last couple of games, squandering a few big chances on Tuesday and not getting anything going on Wednesday. We know they can and will do better. They’ll have to in order to avoid their first three game losing streak of the season tomorrow. Tom Glavine is on the hill so I have faith.

What I don’t have faith in is Lastings Milledge’s ability to play left field in Fenway park. He’s had two key errors in two nights out there. Where is Cliff Floyd when you need him? And it seems as though Milledge has an excuse for every error he makes. He needs to fess up and admit that The Green Monster got the best of him. Because everyone knows it but him.

And Lastings’ batting average has now dipped to .241. The kid is not hitting and the kid is not fielding well.  I’ve seen all I need to see of him during this stretch of the season. Willie should start both Nady and Chavez at the corners of the outfield tomorrow at Fenway and forget about trading Cliff Floyd in the 2006 season.

  1. AH! What happened to Lastings?! I think I could have even caught it. Oy. And it seemed like every pitch Pedro threw was hit! I believe he might have been a little nervous back in Boston, but I think he’ll recover soon. Anyway, they’re gonna have to shape up before tomorrow, or something a lot like a broom’s gonna smack them in the face. At least Tom Glavine’s pitching tomorrow. Maybe he’ll provide a spark - I hope.

  2. I couldn’t believe Pedro’s comments after the game - smiling away, calling it one of the greatest nights of his life, not disappointed at all. I thought he was a real Met, now I have serious doubts. I could understand if this was his only bad outing but he really has been showing us very little lately. Somebody needs to give him a good talking to.

  3. Pedro’s a space cadet. He really seems to do or say whatever he wants. He looked shot in the dugout after the second inning. A little too much nostalgia for his time with the 2004 Sox.

We need Pedro, and all Mets players, in the right mind to help this team win a championship this year. Forget Mets ‘86, forget Sox ‘04, this is the Mets in 2006!

  4. In regards to Milledge, maybe he can get more press in the papers to blow up his ego a little more.

Maybe he should read the piece on where the Mets are going to send him back down to Triple-A.

  5. First 3 game losing streak of the year. Bummer :( The Red Sox really made mince meat of the NL East.

Not the end of the world but now the Mets know that they have some shaping up to do between now and October.

  6. ok so this doesn’t have to do with the articles or the podcast but I need to vent this.

I am listening to under the lights on MLBRadio.com and there is a caller blasting the Mets.

This caller just infuriated me with his lack of baseball knowledge and panicking becuase of 3 losses in a row to Boston. Also the poor communication skills employed by the caller was horrible.

He says, get this, Willie Randolph has to make a trade to get a 2nd baseman, Right fielder and/or Left fielder. I was listening to this and I had to take my headphones off because this guy is an idiot. Yes we could use a 2nd baseman. But we don’t need a RF or LF. We have 3 guys capable of playing those positions pretty well. Plus it’s not Willie’s area to make these trades.

I think every word was Ummm when he called into the show. They should not let Children voice their opinions about baseball becuase they do not know enough. People think just because we don’t have the huge names that the Yankees do means that the players wse have are crap. Last time I checked Nady and Floyd are having a better season then Matsui and Sheffield (mainly due to injuies to the latter mentioned players).

And going back to the trade issue he stated. if we do want to trade with what prospects do we use to get someone? Last time I check we were pretty depleated minus Milledge and Pelfry which we should not trade for anyone less the Pujols or Santana.

So please remember friends don’t let stupid friends call into baseball shows and talk abotu things they are not knowledgeable in.
