Do we really need to trade for a 2nd baseman right now? I think thats an unnecessary move.
I agree with Dan regarding the 2nd base situation right now, and trading people we could use later for different deals would be silly.

Lets Go Mets! Pedro on the hill in just about 15 minutes. Lets win this one and leave for Toronto with a better feeling than last night provided.

I wasn’t suggesting wetrade Pedro (at least I wouldn’t have the cojones to say it if I thought so, heaven forbid), only that we need to give Heilman a chance – two or three shaky outings in two weeks isn’t sufficient to condemn someone who I think will be critical to our playoff hopes.

Martinez will still be the man who puts the most butts in the seats at Shea, and for that reason he has as much job security as any Met ever did right now.

Interesting how nobody ever mentions Anderson Hernandez anymore – both Kaz and Valentin seemed to show enough defensive ability that simply having a great glove at 2B isn’t sufficient. I really think Valentin has earned the spot and don’t see a need to improve there.

The ideal acquisition, if any are necessary, would be a young starter with a strong arm. But if Bannister gets healthy soon that would fill the bill just fine. With all these veterans on the pitching staff, all great leaders willing to give advice, a young pitcher with talent and good listening skills could be groomed to a hall-of-fame career.

Cmon now Dan. Pedro Martinez has had some shaky starts but he’s still Pedro. And he’ll provide us with plenty of magic in 2006.

The word now is that getting a pitcher looks like a difficult proposition so the Mets might try to get a second baseman instead.

Hey, how about Ramon Castro??!? You don’t hear alot about him but he has done his job beautifully. It seems that every time he starts he comes through with a key hit or two. And great job nailing Patterson on the attempted steal in the fourth.

If Marerro had judged any of those balls better he wouldn’t have had to make such heroic catches. They really were rather routine for a normal right fielder. Good day at the plate (and basepaths) for him though.

With Heilman, I get the sense that since he is no longer auditioning for a starting role (since he knows there’s no possibility) he isn’t always so sharp. Like he needed that extra edge. He did fine mopping up yesterday but he is not the guy I would go to in a pinch right now.

But trade him? No way. If Soler or El Duque blow up I expect we will have Bannister waiting in the wings.

Note, fans, who has been the worst starter in the rotation for the past 4 or 5 starts? Hint, the other Pedro, not Feliciano. And there’s no cries to trade him now are there?
