Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

New York Mets Podcast #20

It’s a juggernaught! Mets have taken 7 of 8 on a road trip that could have been disastrous. The bats have really gelled and the team is taking advantage of opponents mistakes while creating their own opportunities with speed and aggressive play. Finally, Pedro Martinez gets runs support. Even Eli Marrero got into the act.

Tom Glavine was weak for the second straight start but he got support and the team gets the win in the series opener. Wright, Delgado and Beltran homer for the Mets. Chad Bradford has a huge hold in the fifth inning. Concern with Aaron Heliman and another bad outing. But Billy Wagner picks the team up with a two inning save. The Phils and Braves are fading fast at this rate.

I take a look at the first weekly poll results and talk about the second one that is still open until Sunday. Both have to do with Lastings Milledge. Why not? This kid is the future of the Mets.

Some trade talk. I’ve been hearing that Cliff Floyd should be used as potential trade bait. Some folks agree, others (including me) don’t agree. Can’t wait til he gets back from his ankle injury but there’s certainly no rush. The Mets should wait and see what we get from the next couple of Orlando Hernandez starts before thinking of deals.

Mets homestand is coming up so get out and support the team if you can. They deserve the cheers for their performance over the last week. Nine games at the end of the month in AL parks means that we get an extra hitter for the DH.

Now Let’s Go Mets and sweep the Phils into oblivion!

  1. Finally we’re rolling. A nice sweep of the D’Backs and we’re on the way to sweeping the Phils. I just hope the Mets don’t peak too early. I’m so glad Beltran, Delgado, and Wright keep bringing in the homers.

  2. Very nice. Seven in a row and 8 1/2 games over Philly and 12 over the Braves. The Amazins are running away with it.

Tonights game had me thinking back to the game in Philly earlier this season when the Mets lost on an early rain out. Of course they wouldn\’t call the game with the Phillies trailing ;)

No matter. The Phillies looked like the Bad News Bears. And the bats and arms came together once again. All expectations far exceeded on this road trip.

  3. ….make that EIGHT straight!! For the best record in the majors. Despite an extremely shaky Tracshel start (again, sigh.) What a great road trip. Good to see Heilman bounce back from a potentially disaterous outing the night before. Though I’m not thrilled with Willie’s overall management of the pitching staff I must say he is good at getting his guys confidence back after poor outings. And Lord knows we will need Heilman down the stretch.

  4. What a great road trip. We have been solid, offensively and defensively.

I’m thrilled that we swept to teams and became a brick in their back.

Regardless why Willie benched Milledge, he should’ve scored. The kids got legs, use them!

David Wright has been an amazing MVP candidate as of late. Good for him. Beltran! HAS FINALLY BEEN EARNING HIS PAYCHECKS! Instead of constant jeering at home…he might…*gulp* be cheered!!

    LET’S GO METS!
