New York Mets Podcast #18
A wrap up of the series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mets take two of three but lose Xavier Nady to appendicitis and Carlos Beltran to a swollen knee. Alay Soler pitches poorly as the Mets lose the middle game of the series. Pedro Martinez throws eight solid innings matching Brandon Webb, but does not get a decision. Still, the Mets win the rubber game dramatically in extra innings.
The Barry Bonds circus comes to town to find rain and more rain. Friday night’s game is rained out so they play a double header on Saturday. The Mets split the double header with Orlando Hernandez throwing a sub par start, spoiling three hits by David Wright. Barry Bonds is a factor with a couple of hits and a walk. Tom Glavine pitches the nightcap and throws seven strong innings without a decision. Mets win the night game in 11 innings due to a sacrifice fly by Chris Woodward and a good slide by Lastings Milledge. Carlos Beltran pinch hits in both games.
Lastings Milledge has disappointed so far while filling in for Xavier Nady. He’s not hitting and has had a couple of flubs in the outfield. Carlos Delgado is still cold at the plate. David Wright is hot at the plate and Cliff Floyd is getting warmer.
A rough ten game road stretch coming up at the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Phillies.

Welcome to Amazin’ Moments, the un-official New York Mets Baseball Podcast. This is where fans of the New York Mets pro baseball team get their fix.

A bummer of a loss today. We get Trachsel’s second high quality start of the year and neither has resulted in a victory.
What’s going on with Heilman? That’s his second bad appearance in a week. The Sanchez inning was partly due to Reyes’ error.
Kudos to Wright, Valentin and Milledge for getting big hits to keep the Mets in the game. Still, it’s going to be a long flight to L.A. tonight.

As losses go, I thought this was an acceptable one. The Mets played their souls out and really left it on the field.
I was happy overall. (Of course a W would have been a little nicer.)
Trachsel was probably in a little too long, but he still left the game in the position to win.
Reyes had a bit of trouble on the double play, but I’m not going to kill him.
The only thing I don’t get is why, with no one on and down by a run, are we showing bunting? I saw a few players do that (I remember Wright doing this in extra innings).
