Where New York Mets Fans Get Their Fix

New York Mets Podcast #18

A wrap up of the series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mets take two of three but lose Xavier Nady to appendicitis and Carlos Beltran to a swollen knee. Alay Soler pitches poorly as the Mets lose the middle game of the series. Pedro Martinez throws eight solid innings matching Brandon Webb, but does not get a decision. Still, the Mets win the rubber game dramatically in extra innings.

The Barry Bonds circus comes to town to find rain and more rain. Friday night’s game is rained out so they play a double header on Saturday. The Mets split the double header with Orlando Hernandez throwing a sub par start, spoiling three hits by David Wright. Barry Bonds is a factor with a couple of hits and a walk. Tom Glavine pitches the nightcap and throws seven strong innings without a decision. Mets win the night game in 11 innings due to a sacrifice fly by Chris Woodward and a good slide by Lastings Milledge. Carlos Beltran pinch hits in both games.

Lastings Milledge has disappointed so far while filling in for Xavier Nady. He’s not hitting and has had a couple of flubs in the outfield. Carlos Delgado is still cold at the plate. David Wright is hot at the plate and Cliff Floyd is getting warmer.

A rough ten game road stretch coming up at the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Phillies.

Mets Get A Split

I plan to record another podcast later today. Til then, some thoughts on yesterday’s double header.

Another sub-par outing from Orlando Hernandez. I refuse to call him El Duque until he actually starts pitching well enough to be worthy of such a lofty nickame. Glavine does what he’s done all year, making quality starts. He doesn’t get the win but the Mets do. Lastings Milledge has been a real disappointment so far but maybe I’m expecting too much from a guy who’s barely had a cup of coffee yet.

Thanks to all the listeners who have added themselves to the map. With the addition of Gary from Alaska we’re represented all the way from there to Puerto Rico! Now we need someone from Europe.
